Where EWTN went anathema..

As I was scrolling through mainstream Catholic content, I noticed a shocking response in the Q&A section of the EWTN website that has taken place in 2010 – 2011. The reply was from a gentlemen, David Gregson, who stated in 2011 that “Taking the Lord’s name in vain is not a mortal sin”.

My main concern is if he believes that The Ten Commandments still apply today, since taking Our Lord’s name in vein is against The Second Commandment. I pray that he doesn’t still hold to the same position as the one in his previous post. The Council of Trent makes it very clear that The 10 Commandments still apply to the every day Catholic Christian. It states the following: “If any one saith, that nothing besides faith is commanded in the Gospel; that other things are indifferent, neither commanded nor prohibited, but free; or, that the ten commandments nowise appertain to Christians; let him be anathema.” (Council of Trent Session 6 Canon 19).
